Victorian Taille d'Epargne Pair of Wedding Slide Bracelets
Years of searching for treasure and we have hit the jackpot! It is very rare to find a pair of Victorian wedding bracelets in excellent condition such as these! The bracelets are adjustable with a sliding piece and hanging tassel. The slide features Taille d’Epargne detail which creates a frame for the 5 lustrous seed pearls in the center.
The link bracelet measures just under 1/2″ wide with 9 pieces of hanging chain which acts as a tassel moving freely as you wear them. The tassels have beads on the ends with the exception of one which can be replaced if desired. If you love antique jewelry, you will be very impressed with this pair of wedding bracelets!
Taille d’epargné, sometimes referred to as black enamel tracery, translates from the French literally as “saving cut.” It is a variation of champlevé whereby engraved lines forming a design are incised into the metal and are filled with opaque enamel– usually black – like basse taille enameling but without the subtle depth variations.
This technique was often used to decorate bracelets, watch cases, chatelaines and mourning jewelry. Circa late 1800’s. Pictured as received from a local estate. Excellent estate condition with minimal wear indicative of age.
