Tagliamonte Vicenza (continue the tradition of Tagliamonte founded in Torre del Greco (Naples) founded in 1943) dedicated its activity to the production of Venetian Cameo jewelry since 1985. Tagliamonte can be considered the only firm in the world that manufactures this kind of stone. Its exclusivity is not limited to the production in itself, but includes the masterful use of a “classical” iconographic repertory. Tagliamonte Venice Cameos with their fascinating forms are a kind of seduction that belongs to another age.
Tagliamonte is bringing back a manufacturing style as old as Mesopotamia. Molded cameos or intaglios, are a part of jewelry history that in recent years has been largely ignored. The style can be traced back as far as the Mesopotamians, but was further developed by craftsmen from the ancient Roman colony of Aquileia. Mr Nino Tagliamonte, with two Venetian artists, dedicated five years of research to this project using authentic 18th century plaster matrix carvings. After numerous attempts, they rediscovered and successfully experimented with original Roman blending, processing and casting methods.
The company now has a collection of over three thousand matrices, partly original and partly modern castings, and can produce Venice Cameo gems identical to the antique originals by following the Roman manual processing patterns and formulas.
The cameos are available in a variety of colors, though each is hand wrought with incandescent glass and the exact color is established only when cooled.
